The beginning of summer … fun, exciting and possibly stressful as your carefully crafted schedule goes out the window! For parents with school-age kids, no only are they home from school, but their appearance can wreak havoc on a toddler’s nap time. Who doesn’t want to play with their older brother or sister? For families with younger children, there may be a break in your playgroup or pre-school program.

So what to do with the kids to keep them not only occupied, but having fun and continuing to learn and grow?

Bring them to a children’s class at The Motherhood Center! The Center offers a wide range of children’s classes, such as Prelude music, Montessori Art and dance. The classes are created and led by experts in their fields and cater to a wide range of age groups, from birth to 6 years, with an emphasis on the toddler years.

Interested in a class, but concerned about missing a class or two? The Motherhood Center knows summertime is full of vacations and other adventures, so not to worry! Summer sessions are shorter than regular sessions and offer more flexibility. May have to miss a class? Makeup classes are available during the duration of the session.

Here’s a look at TMC’s children’s class offerings this summer:

Alphabooks: Alphabooks is an early literacy program created specifically for toddlers between the ages of 20 months and 3 years. This book-based class uses phonics, sign language, songs, art and physical movement to introduce the alphabet to young learners and strengthen letter recognition. The instructor, Susie Morales, put together a great video that gives more details on the class … you can find it on YouTube.

Sat: 9-9:45 or 10-10:45 – begins July 14

Tiny Tutus: Tiny Tutus is TMC’s baby ballet program for our youngest dancers ages 18 months – 2.5 years. Tiny Tutus introduces creative movement to toddlers, who dance together with a parent. The class focuses on fine and gross motor skills, along with musicality, creativity and fun. Over the course of the class, toddlers begin to form strong listening skills and independence as they slowly learn to follow teacher instruction instead of relying on their parent.

Summer Schedule:

Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 2:30 pm – 3:15 pm for 8 weeks

Begins week of June 18

Pre-Ballet: Pre-Ballet is for ages 2.5 to 3.5. Young dancers are taught basic warm-up and stretch exercises to instill the idea of getting the body ready to dance through fun routines and very simple ballet movements. Parents can relax in TMC’s sitting area while children learn the basics of ballet.

Summer Schedule

Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays from 3:30 pm – 4:15 pm for 8 weeks

Ballet: Ballet expands on skills learned in pre-ballet, incorporating more advanced dance routines and ballet movements. Ballet vocabulary will also be expanded upon and discipline will be encouraged as a fundamental learning block. Pre-ballet is not required to take this class. Like pre-ballet, parents can relax in TMC’s sitting area. A recital at the end of the program will demonstrate skills learned during the session.
